Welcome to Year 1

This term we will be learning:

Geography	Where do we have different weather? We will be learning about what the weather is like in different parts of the world. Where is the North Pole, South Pole? We will also learn about the four countries of the U.K. and the four seasons.
Science	Linked to our Geography unit we will be observing the weather, watching forecasts and learning about weather symbols. We will make our own weather diary and take part in fun weather experiments.
English	We will be reading 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers as our main text and lots of non fiction books about penguins. We will also read lots of weather poems and rhymes.
Maths	This half term our units will be focussed on addition and subtraction within 10. Then 2D and 3D shapes.
PE	Our P.E. lessons will contain targets game activities and during gymnastics sessions we will be focusing on following small and long pathways.
RE	Why is Christmas celebrated by Christians?
Computing	We will be collecting data during our weather topic and creating a pictogram.
PSHE	What are you thankful for? Friends and family.
Music	We will focus on two songs. Rythym in the way we walk (Reggae) and Banana rap (Hip hop style) through games and singinging we will compare the two styles. We will also be learning lots of Christmas songs for our Christmas show.
DT or Art	This term D.T, will be our main focus. We will be learning about mechanisms, levers and sliders. Creating a moving penguin picture.
