About the club
Waverton Out of School Club in Waverton opened in October 2007 to provide childcare for children aged 4 to 11 years. It is open for both breakfast club and afterschool Club, weekdays during term time.
We are based at The Scout Hut, within the school grounds. The large hall is used for snacks, crafts, construction, creative play, using the Wii, film watching and book reading, etc. The school hall is also available at times for activities, physical play and mealtimes.
We have access to all of the school playground, playing field areas, climbing wall, activity trail and tyre park.
Aims
The club aims to provide a safe and secure and relaxed environment for the children in our care. We endeavour to provide an atmosphere and activities similar to those found within the home.
What we offer
We try to offer a wide range of activities, incorporating , craft, board games, reading, imaginary play, construction, sport and much more. During their time at the club children choose activities that suit them best.
A snack and drink are provided each day; however this is not intended to substitute for a main evening meal that the child may receive at home. We promote independence, by encouraging the children to obtain their own snack or beakfast, and to clear away after themselves. We use fresh ingredients and follow statutory guidelines. Fresh drinking water is available at all times. Individual dietary requirements and parental preferences are met wherever possible. We recognise the importance of healthy nutrition for children delivered in a calm, friendly setting.
Staffing
Out of School Club is staffed by a manager and a team of five playworkers. School staff are also of great assistance to us as collection time. The aim is to provide a smooth transition between school and club. All our staff have significant experience of working with children. Staff are expected to undertake professional development training. All staff members are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau. We maintain a minimum staff/child ratio of 1:8 for children under the age of eight, in line with statutory requirements.
Policies and procedures
The club operates under a number of policies and procedures, copies of which are held at the club, and are available at your request.
Please note: Policies and procedures are currently being reviewed and will shortly be available to view on our website.
